Fort Strong is dedicated.
October 31, 1814
(Oct.) Architect: Loammi Baldwin. Originally Fort Warren, it is located at today’s Webster Street near Belmont Square. By the time construction is finished, the threat of attack has passed and the fort is never used in combat. The name of the fort is transferred to the one on Georges Island and it is renamed Fort Strong in 1833. It is replaced a new Fort Strong on Long Island in 1867.* (The last fortified facility on the Boston Harbor Islands, it is abandoned by the federal government on October 4, 1929.)
